Default Computer Upgrade

I just upgraded to a Dell XPS 720 Quad core machine.. Wow it is so fast compared to my pentium 4 and you would not believe the size of this computer case its twice the size of anything i have ever seen but its really cool. It has windows vista premium on it but i am going to dual boot with XP 64bit and see what difference it makes with my 3D design software which is pretty crappy on vista even with 4gb of ram and 512mb video card. wish me luck lol..

Sounds cool Marc! I'm going to be building myself a Quad Core system after I get my tax return money. I'm very excited about that, so I can understand your excitement.

Just built myself a quad core as well... Steve, did you get in on the free processor deal the last couple weeks? I had just bought a new one so I didn't bother.

If you are building, make sure to check out the discount site for procs - good deals to be had

I just wanted something that was already together so i can just plug in and get going. I actually ditched vista all together and went with XP 64bit.. it is sooo fast rendering my 3d scenes.

I haven't been impressed with Vista for a number of reasons. I'm not sure I'm ready to go to 64 Bit yet just because of the issues with various software and drivers that don't work with it yet. Maybe I'll setup dual boot.

The 64bit xp is definitly faster then vista or regular xp but yes it does have some compatibility issues and it just seems to be a little unstable even with the 64bit programs. I might try vista x64 and see if that is any better..
